Cats are known for their playful and curious nature, a trait that keeps their owners both entertained and on their toes. Keeping our feline friends engaged is not just about fun and games; it's crucial for their mental and physical health. This is where sensory toys come into play, providing an innovative way to stimulate your cat's senses, ensuring they are not only entertained but also getting the enrichment they need to thrive. These sensory toys can range from items that trigger their natural hunting instincts to gadgets that appeal to their keen sense of sight, sound, or touch. Engaging your cat with sensory toys is a surefire way to add excitement and variety to their daily routine, keeping them intrigued and interactive. Whether you’re a new cat parent or looking for new ways to spice up your furry pal’s playtime, learning about the benefits of sensory toys will open up a whole new world of interactive play and pet enrichment. So, let’s dive into the purr-fect world of sensory toys and discover how they can keep your cats engaged, healthy, and happy!
Cats, those enigmatic little creatures who share our homes, need more than just the basics of food, water, and a cozy sleeping spot. Like us, they crave entertainment and mental stimulation, which is where sensory toys come into play. Let's delve into the benefits these toys offer to our feline friends.
Cats are naturally curious animals, always on the lookout for something that catches their eye or tickles their senses. Sensory toys are fantastic for keeping that curiosity alive and kicking. Toys that stimulate their senses—be it through sound, touch, or sight—can help keep their minds sharp and engaged. Imagine a toy that chirps like a bird when batted; such a simple feature can captivate a cat's attention for hours, encouraging them to think and respond as though they're on an actual hunt.
We've all seen the memes of chubby cats lounging lazily, but the truth is, maintaining a healthy weight and regular physical activity is crucial for a cat's overall health. Sensory toys, especially those that encourage chasing, jumping, or batting, work wonders in persuading even the most stubborn couch potato to get moving. These toys serve dual purposes: they keep your cat entertained and help burn off those extra calories, ensuring they stay agile and fit.
One type that has become increasingly popular among the feline population is the motion- activated toy. These gadgets come in various forms, from small critters that scurry away when touched to balls that light up and roll unpredictably. The unpredictable movement of these toys triggers a cat's natural hunting instincts, providing them with endless fun and exercise. Plus, it's highly entertaining for us to watch their antics as they engage with these toys.
Another innovative type of sensory toy is the puzzle feeder. Designed to challenge a cat's intellect, these toys require cats to solve a puzzle to access their treats or kibble. This not only keeps them mentally sharp but also slows down their eating, which is beneficial for their digestion. Puzzle feeders come in various difficulty levels, so you can find the perfect match for your smarty-paws.
Lastly, treat-dispensing toys blend the best of both worlds—offering physical and mental stimulation while rewarding them with their favorite snacks. These toys typically release treats when manipulated correctly, encouraging cats to interact with them over longer periods. Whether it's batting, rolling, or even carrying the toy around, your cat will be fully engaged in the task at hand, all the while getting a tasty reward for their effort.
In conclusion, integrating sensory toys into your cat's daily routine is a surefire way to enhance their quality of life. Not only do these toys help keep their bodies healthy and minds sharp, but they also provide a wonderful opportunity for you to bond with your beloved pet. So why not add a few to your cat's collection and watch them explore, play, and thrive?
Cats are curious by nature and love exploring different textures and sounds around them. Creating homemade sensory toys can be both a fun project for you and an exciting new adventure for your feline friend. Let's dig into some ideas that promise to keep your cat engaged and entertained.
Almost every cat owner knows how much cats love cardboard boxes, but with a little creativity, these simple boxes can turn into an exciting playhouse for your pet. Take a few boxes and cut holes in them of various sizes. You can arrange these boxes together to form a little tunnel maze for your cat to explore. The thrill of not knowing what's on the other side of the hole will provide endless entertainment and stimulate their natural hunting instincts.
Catnip toys are quite popular among the feline population due to the herb's effect on most cats, inducing a state of euphoria or excitement. Making these toys at home is simple and affordable. You can sew little fabric pillows and fill them with dried catnip. For an added sensory experience, incorporate materials with different textures, such as fleece, burlap, or cotton. These homemade catnip toys can provide your pet with hours of joyful play.
Channel your cat's natural predator instincts with a DIY fishing pole toy. It’s as simple as attaching a string to a stick and tying a feather, bell, or other lightweight object at the end of the string. The unpredictable movement of the toy mimics prey, stimulating your cat’s hunting instincts. Wave it around or drag it across the floor and watch your cat's natural predatory skills in action. This toy not only encourages physical activity but also strengthens the bond between you and your pet through interactive play.
Ensuring that your cat remains engaged and safe while playing is paramount when selecting or creating sensory toys. Here are a few tips to keep in mind.
Cats, much like people, have their own unique preferences. Some may gravitate towards toys that make noise, while others might prefer items that they can chase. Pay attention to the types of toys that your cat seems to enjoy the most and try to replicate those features in new toys. Observing your cat's behavior can give you insights into what they might find entertaining.
Safety should always be the top priority when selecting or creating toys. Avoid small parts that could be swallowed, toxic materials, and sharp edges. Durability is also important, as it ensures the toy can withstand your cat's enthusiastic play. Opt for high- quality materials, and double-check that all parts of the toy are secure. Remember, regular inspection of the toys to check for potential hazards can prevent any unwanted accidents and keep the fun going for longer.
By taking the time to create or select the right sensory toys for your cat, you're not just providing them with momentary entertainment — you're enhancing their well- being and deepening your bond through interactive and stimulating play.
Keeping your feline friend both physically and mentally stimulated is key to their overall well- being. Just like humans, cats can get bored with the same old toys day in and day out. This is where the magic of rotating sensory toys comes into play. It’s essential to have a variety of sensory toys at your disposal and to switch them up regularly. This not only keeps things interesting for your cat but also challenges them in different ways. Whether it’s toys that squeak, crinkle, light up, or vibrate, each type stimulates different senses and keeps your cat’s playtime both fun and engaging.
Another benefit of rotating toys is that it prevents your cat from becoming too reliant on one type of play. By offering a range of sensory experiences, you help develop their agility, hunting instincts, and problem-solving skills. This variety can also lead to a reduction in behavior problems that stem from boredom or lack of stimulation. Furthermore, regularly introducing new toys keeps their environment enriched and mimics the changing scenarios they would encounter in the wild. So, remember, variation is not just the spice of life for us humans but for our feline companions as well.
Introducing sensory toys into your cat’s daily routine can dramatically enhance their quality of life. However, it's not just about handing them a new toy and hoping for the best. Properly incorporating these toys into their day-to-day activities requires a bit of planning but is well worth the effort.
Firstly, designate a specific area in your home as the play zone. This doesn’t necessarily mean dedicating an entire room (though it’s great if you can!), but rather a specific corner or space that’s safe and free from hazards. Ensure this area has varying levels that they can jump to and from, as height plays a crucial role in a cat’s environment. This dedicated space helps your cat understand that it’s a place where exciting things happen, making them more likely to engage with the toys you provide.
Just like humans, cats thrive on routine. Establish consistent playtimes, ideally once in the morning and once in the evening, to coincide with their natural hunting rhythms. Begin by introducing sensory toys one at a time, observing which ones your cat gravitates towards. Some cats may prefer toys with feathers that mimic birds, while others might be more intrigued by toys that replicate rodent movements. It's important to actively engage with your cat during these playtimes, using toys to mimic prey movements. This not only strengthens your bond but also enhances the play experience for your cat, providing them with the mental and physical stimulation they crave. By doing so, you’re not just giving your cat something to do; you’re actively participating in their growth and emotional well-being.
Keeping your feline friends active and engaged is crucial for their well-being and happiness. Sensory toys not only provide endless entertainment but also cater to the natural instincts of your cat, enriching their lives in multiple dimensions. Here’s a quick recap of why integrating sensory toys into your cat's daily routine is beneficial:
Stimulates their mind: Keeps them mentally sharp and curious.
Encourages physical activity: Helps in maintaining a healthy weight and agility.
Reduces boredom and stress: Offers a productive outlet for their energy, reducing anxiety and mischievous behavior.
Remember, every cat has their unique preferences, so it might take some experimenting to discover which sensory toys capture your cat's interest the most. But once you find the right mix, you'll not only boost their health and vitality but also deepen the bond between you and your furry companion. So, why wait? Get started today and watch your kitty thrive with the joy and excitement that sensory toys bring into their lives!
]]>First, before you begin, you must know how a dog thinks. I would say that a dog thinks 80% of the time with its nose, and the rest of the time with its other senses. If you look at animals in the wild, you'll notice that most mammals like Wolves, Lions, Tigers, and Wild Dogs scent mark their territories. This is not only a sign of demarcation, but a place where these animals return to mark over and over again, in order warn other animals or their rivals that this is their territory.
It is precisely this habit that the distant cousins of wolves, our dogs, exercise on a daily basis. That is, dogs know and remember where to go "potty" by mainly using their sense of smell. Dogs a creatures of habit; therefore, they generally like to go "potty" after a meal, after they wake-up from a nap, and after they exercise. Your job is to recognize when your dog needs to "go" and guide it to the pre-designated area before it does its business. Thus, you must monitor your dog for at least 2 weeks until the desired outcome is programmed into your dog's psyche.
So, what are you to do if your dog makes a mistake and "goes" in the middle of your living room? The answer depends on whether you catch your dog in the middle of the act or not. If you catch it in the middle of the act, you can say something like "no," and quickly lead your dog to the desired location before it finishes doing its business. If, however, you find the mess after the fact, you must NEVER punish your dog. Your dog simply won't understand what it is being punished for and it will soon learn to fear you instead of look at you as its leader.
The question then is "what should one do if one finds the mess after the fact?" My advice is as follows: take a newspaper or towel and rub it onto the mess; then, take it back to the location where you desire your dog to "potty," and smear that area. This will teach your dog to use its natural instincts (to scent mark) to go "potty" exactly where you want it to. But you still are not done yet! Now you must erase your dog's memory of the location in your house where it had gone "potty" by properly cleaning the spot with the right cleaning agent. Cleaning with ordinary household cleaners is a bad idea. Most household cleaners contain Ammonia; the very ingredient in Urine which arouses a dog's instinct to scent mark. So, instead of using ordinary household cleaners, use a product like "Nature's Miracle," which is specifically designed to remove the smell of urine and feces and erase you dog's memory of the previous location where it had done its business.
The key to housebreaking an older dog is patience. Be patient, and you dog will learn to do what you ask of it in no time.
How much water is adequate?
Water makes up around 80% of their being and hence it is the primary component for all healthy calls. Keeping our pooch well hydrated is essential so that they can function at the top of their ability at all times. According to sources, dogs need about one ounce of water for every pound they weigh. So if your pooch weighs fifty pounds, he will need at least fifty ounces of water on a daily basis. Increase the amount if the weather is hot as the Fido tends to lose moisture through more intense panting and sweating.
Why water is so important?
Dogs cannot replenish their water reserves as quickly as we can. Dehydration is one of the worst things a dog can experience. In order to make their body better equipped to function at the top of their ability, it is important to keep them well hydrated in all seasons. Just to compare, humans can go without food for up to three weeks but only a week without water; whereas canines can go only up to a week without food and about three days without water. This is because their body mass is much lower than humans and hence less conservation of energy is possible. That is why it makes more sense to care about the proper hydration in our dog’s diet.
Signs and symptoms of dehydration in dogs
There are times when dog parents forget to fill up the bowls of their fur baby. If you are the forgetful type, watch out for some signs that your dog is dehydrated. This is all the more necessary in summer times. When a dog is dehydrated, their eyes can be a telltale sign. They might appear a little sunken in and tears stop forming in the corner of their eyes. Their nostrils which are always moist can get dry. Their gums appear dry, gummy or pale in color. To confirm that your dog is dehydrated, you can pick up a fold of loose skin over the shoulder blades to check. If it bounces right back into place, then dehydration is likely not occurring. If the skin stays up for a few seconds and takes longer to bounce back, then it is a matter of concern. Dehydration also replenishes dogs of their energy. Look out for abnormal lethargy and loss of appetite to confirm dehydration setting in.
Importance of water
Now that we know the importance of water in our canine’s daily diet, it is our responsibility to ensure that clean and fresh water be available to them at all times. Here’s to happy drinking!

]]>Bacterial and fungal infections- If you notice redness and itching of skin accompanied by some odour, in addition to hair loss in your canine, it could be a case of bacterial or fungal infection. Though some yeast and bacteria are normal inhabitants of canine skin, sometimes they grow out of control and cause an infection which leads to the above symptoms. In severe cases, it may also cause pimple-like pustules. Fungal infection is also caused when dogs contract ringworm which causes hair loss and small areas of infection. This can be set right by some medications. You need to go to a vet who will conduct a thorough examination and testing to determine the exact cause and prescribe antibiotics or antifungals.
Flea and mites- Flea infection is fairly common in dogs and the risk rises in specific seasons. Most vets advise to go for flea prevention shots before the onset of risk season to ensure that the dogs do not catch infection. Fleas are very easily communicable and so if enough precaution has not been taken, the canines are susceptible to such infections. This leads to itchy skin and as it gets worse, the dogs itch themselves to the point of scratching their hair off in places. Mites are microscopic creatures that live on the surface of the skin or in hair follicles. They cause hair loss and itching by burrowing or chewing on skin. Some mites like scabies mites are extremely contagious while others like demodex mites are not, but still cause hair loss and require treatment. If you find evidence of mites or fleas, your vet may prescribe an ant parasitic medication and offer tips for ridding your house of pests.
Allergy reactions- Many dogs are sensitive to external or environmental conditions like pollen, mold, dust mites, flea allergies, food allergies and more. These irritants can cause itchy skin and hair loss. A vet can diagnose the exact kind of allergy your dog is suffering from and will prescribe relevant medications to cure it. If the underlying cause of allergies is ascertained and taken care of, then there are strong chances of regrowth of your dog’s hair. Food allergies can be ascertained after conducting a few tests and then your vet can advise you to refrain from giving your dog such ingredients.
Alopecia- This is a medical condition wherein the hair of a dog falls out partially or entirely and there is an inability to regrow hair. It happens when body attacks its own hair follicles, resulting in hair falling out. Alopecia usually exhibits a pattern to the baldness and it will either spread out or appear symmetrical. Some of these flareups are temporary and improve with medication while others remain a permanent affair. It may not be a pretty sight to see a hairless dog but this condition is not life threatening. If itchiness does not happen, dogs live a normal life with this condition. Other symptoms of Alopecia include darkened skin or change in skin colour, dry, crusty skin, red and inflamed skin that appear thickened, dandruff or flaky hair and red spots on the skin with or without pustules. Alopecia may be hereditary or caused due to some hormonal imbalance in dogs. It could also be caused due to hypothyroidism, Cushing’s disease, or reaction to rabies and corticosteroid injections.
Excessive shedding can also be caused due to stress, sudden change in temperature, separation anxiety, poor nutrition, pregnancy, lactation or any other underlying medical concern. It is best to consult a vet as soon as you spot early signs of a problem so that it is cured before the problem aggravates. To avoid such issues, pet parents should ensure a clean and hygienic living condition of their dog, nutritious diet and take steps for prevention of flea, lice, mosquitoes or mange mites. These can help curb and treat problems to a great extent. Only when the reason is genetic or due to auto-immune disorder, there is no way to prevent it. Waggfluence wishes your dog friend a healthy and safe life. For more pet issues and care, stay tuned!

The shape and size of the pupil determines the amount of light entering the eyes. When it is dark, the pupils expand to let more light enter the eyes so that our vision gets enhanced. The cats’ eyes do the same but with much more finesse.
The pupils of the cats allow for a wider range of muscle movements and thus more light can enter their eyes, enabling them to see more clearly in the dark. Since cats are nocturnal and they would hunt at night before being domesticated, they needed better vision in the dark.
The thin vertical slits in cats are capable of undergoing a 135-300 fold change in area between the constricted and dilated states. So in the day time the cats can squeeze their eyes to a tiny slit while being able to open them super wide on dark nights. For the purpose of comparison, human pupils can only change their pupil area 15 fold. This should be able to give you a clear picture of how brilliantly the cats’ eyes work.
That is why they can see with only one-sixth of the illumination we need to see.
Being a cat parent, it must be interesting for you to know these facts about their eyes. Stay tuned for more because at Waggfluence we love to share facts that will make you know your pet better.

As a pet parent, it's important to take care of not only your own health and well-being, but also that of your furry friend. With the new year just around the corner, now is the perfect time to make some resolutions to help you and your pet have the best year possible. Here are the top five New Year's resolutions for pet parents in 2023:
Exercise more: It's not just humans who benefit from regular exercise – pets need it too! Make a commitment to take your pet on daily walks or runs, or sign up for a local dog park membership so they can play and socialize with other pups. Not only will this improve your pet's physical health, but it can also help with their mental well-being and behavior.
Eat healthier: Just like humans, pets can also benefit from a healthy and balanced diet. This means feeding them high-quality, nutrient-rich food and avoiding unhealthy treats and scraps. Make sure to read labels and understand what goes into your pet's food, and consider switching to a healthier brand if necessary.
Get your pet checked out by the vet: It's easy to get busy and put off taking your pet to the vet, but regular check-ups are important for their overall health. Make a resolution to take your pet to the vet at least once a year (or more often if recommended by your veterinarian) to catch any potential issues early on.
Train and socialize your pet: Proper training and socialization is essential for a well-behaved and happy pet. Make a resolution to invest in training classes or work with a professional trainer to teach your pet basic obedience skills and help them feel comfortable around people and other animals.
Volunteer with pet-related organizations: If you love animals and want to make a difference, consider volunteering your time and resources to pet-related organizations in your community. This can be anything from helping out at a local animal shelter to participating in fundraising events for animal welfare groups. Not only will you be making a positive impact, but you'll also get to spend time with like-minded people and animals.
By making these resolutions and sticking to them, you can help ensure that you and your pet have a happy and healthy year ahead. Whether it's improving your pet's diet, getting them more exercise, or volunteering your time and resources, there are many ways you can make a positive impact on their lives. So take a moment to reflect on what you and your pet need, and make a plan to make the most of 2023
]]>Theory of evolution - Cats are predominantly wild animals and it is in their inherent quality to observe their world from a high point. This stems from the fact that back when they lived in jungles, they were both predators to mice, birds and rabbits and prey to larger animals like owls or eagles. Being perched up high provided them a better view of the potential prey and also allowed them to see a predator approaching. A higher vantage point on the trees and bushes further offered some the much needed camouflage from predators. So the next time your find your kitty perched on top of your wardrobe or refrigerator, you know that it is their instinctual habit which remains deeply ingrained in their biological and evolutionary makeup.
The status symbol of dominance- Even after domestication, cats retained their penchant for high spots because of several other reasons as well. Cats are private beings and settled in some high up place gives them their own privacy and some calm space in the busy household. In a house with multiple pets, it helps them avoid confrontation with other cats in the home. Normally in a house with multiple cats, it has been observed that the cat with the best vantage point is typically considered the dominant cat. In this case, having a number of high points in home can prevent conflict because each cat has their own spot and hence no clashes.
Exercise is important- Cats get bored very easily because basically they are also lazy beings. Climbing gives them physical and mental stimulation because a bored cat could also become destructive. To keep them from scratching your furniture or upholstery, it is better to provide them some vertical space that will keep them busy in addition to satiating their instinctual urge to climb. Some exercise helps maintain body weight as most domesticated cats turn obese and consequently a host of various diseases. This becomes all the more important if you have multiple cats because cats’ hierarchies are determined by vertical placement and height. Having a vertical space with number of perching points helps in maintaining balance in your home’s kitty society.
How to stop cats from climbing up your household belongings
It could be irritating to see your cat jump up your kitchen counter and knock things off. Equally irksome is seeing your kitty be perched on top of your book or crockery shelves. This could not only damage things but also pose threat to the cat as they might cut or bruise themselves. To stop them from doing so and also paying heed to their natural instinct, it is best to get some hanging spots and vertical space for your fur pal. Waggfluence knows the importance of having these in every cat household and so has come up with few interesting cat trees and hanging swings to keep your cat happy and you sane.

Keep your things tamperproof and your kitty happy at the same time by installing one of these in your house. Let your fur ball climb up to happiness and more fun!
]]>Age of teething in pups
At around the age of three weeks, puppies start teething. By approximately 6 weeks, all of their deciduous teeth will have erupted. First erupts the incisors, just like in human babies, followed by the premolars. Dogs do not have any baby molars. At around 12 weeks, the deciduous teeth gradually begin to fall out. This is the time when permanent teeth begin to burst forth the gums. By the age of six months, most puppies have their set of permanent teeth with all the deciduous ones fallen. In some rare cases, some smaller breeds have a tendency to retain some of their deciduous teeth which can cause misaligned teeth leading to poor bite and discomfort. That is why vets use a simple procedure to remove retained deciduous teeth, if any.
Chew toys for pups
During the teething process, the irritation in gums due to eruption of teeth causes pups to chew anything they get their teeth on. Pups bite on furniture, sticks or balls to ease their teething process. There is a risk of these things causing gastrointestinal blockages or intestinal punctures which can become life threatening in extreme cases. To avoid suck unpleasant situations, it is better to provide the pups with appropriate chew toys. Waggfluence presents Waggfluence pet popular toys dog chew toy for aggressive chewers to engage your pup in a constructive manner. Also try Waggfluence pet squeaky plush chew toys for teeth clean as it has amazing reviews from pet parents. These chew toys not only soothe their teething gums but also help to clean the food remainders between the teeth and helps to give them dental care too. Made of quality material, they are safe and hygienic to use. Because of their durability you can let your pups use these toys for long periods of time. Just wash it after every use and it is good to be used the next day. In general, it is advised not to let your pup chew anything that does not bend.
How to discourage your puppy chewing on unwanted things
Inspite of making available some chew toys, some puppies still like to chew on unwanted things. They may even chew on your hands or other body parts while you are playing with them. To discourage such behavior, do not leave tempting items like clothes, shoes or children’s toys within their reach. If your puppy chews on your hands, yelp a high pitched shriek to tell them you condemn this behavior of theirs. Move out of the room so that they remember that biting is associated with your pain and hence playing stops for them. Excessive chewing seems to subside around 18 months of age but continues to some degree as chewing, licking and mouthing are normal activities of dogs. If aggressive chewing continues even after this age, you might consult your vet for advice.
Tooth care begins early
When talking about teething process in dogs, we at Waggfluence wish to add that it is best to introduce your puppy to dental care as early as possible. With the eruption of permanent teeth, introduce dog toothbrush to them. It should become a habit that they think of as a regular feature. Starting to brush late might have them refusing to let their teeth being brushed and you would have little control over it. Since dental problems are one of the most common issues in dog health, it is wise to address them early on and not wait for any disease to set in. Try using Waggfluence dog cat soft pet finger brush for beginners. Graduate to Waggfluence toothbrush for dogs for adult dogs. Many dogs can be taught to tolerate or even enjoy daily teeth brushing.
For new pup parents, we hope this provides you a guide to the dental details of your little fur baby. For any queries, write to us and we shall be happy to help. Our constant effort and endeavor is to make the name Waggfluence synonymous with pet care and pet love. Trust us and love us!
]]>The type of coat your dog has is a big factor in how often he requires bath. The breed of dogs and their place of stay also remain vital in deciding the frequency of bathing the dog. Waggfluence feels that there are a few factors that dog parents should consider while deciding this. Let us see in detail.
The activities of the dog- The dogs that play outdoors a lot are more prone to getting dirty. Since some dogs like to frolic in mud and grass, their coat get soiled and filthy. These dogs need more frequent baths because if they do not get cleaned, they start smelling stinky after a few days. Working dogs also need bath more frequently because they get the musty smell very soon owing to being out in the farms or fields. In contrast the dogs who prefer to remain indoors and go out only for walks might stay clean and smelling wonderful even if not bathed for a couple of months.
Hair length of the dogs- Medium and long coat dogs need more maintenance because if they are not groomed properly, they develop matted hair and very visible dirty long furs. In that case you or your guests would feel reluctant to hold them in your lap or play with them. To take care of their long coat, they should be bathed every four to six weeks. The long furs need grooming to maintain the softness and silkiness of their fur. The owners of dogs with short coats could bathe their pets somewhere between once every month and every three months. Waggfluence wishes to advise the dog parents not to wash their canine’s coat too much, though. Over bathing dogs with thick coats like Labrador Retrievers, Golden Retrievers or Siberian huskies can result in stripping essential oil from their skin. This should be avoided at all costs because this oil aids with naturally insulating dogs and interfering with the natural system is always a bad idea.
Use your own instinct- Always abiding with the rules is not the solution when it comes to pet care. If you can smell the skunk stench of your pooch from a distance, you know it is time he be cleaned. Dolls roll in things they shouldn’t and of course you cannot always be there to prevent it. You sure wouldn’t want a muddy pooch in your house. So the key point remains to use your sense of smell and touch as a timer for doggy bath time. To make your pooch enjoy bath all the more go for Waggfluence dog and cat shampoo massager which gives a good fur massage with its silicone rubber brush.
Climate of the place- If you and you pup reside in a place that experiences very cold weather including snowfall, you could postpone your idea of giving your pet a bath for three to four months. Ensure that the temperature is warm enough for a bath. Bathing dogs in very low temperature area can pose a lot of health risks. Any water content left in the fur of the dogs could freeze and be a cause of various ailments and diseases. On the contrary, dogs residing in areas which tend to get very hot in summer need more frequent baths to cool down their skin temperature. If not done they may be at a risk of heat stroke. Keeping them cool and dry is very important for pet parents.
Dogs might get a little crazy after bath by shaking or running around. They shake or roll to get themselves dry which is obviously not a good way. Waggfluence recommends you use a good quality pet drying coat or towel. Try Waggfluence bathrobe pet drying coat microfiber absorbent beach towel. You can alternatively go for Waggfluence quick drying pet dog and cat water absorbing soft fiber towels. After giving them a bath, try not to let them out in the open soon after, so as to let their body temperature normalise after the bath. Waggfluence wishes you happy pet grooming!
]]>Take your pet for an outing- Being able to spend time outdoors with you could be a welcoming change and probably the best gift for your fur baby. Take them out to explore the neighborhood and the streets and shops adorned with Christmas lights. The last minute shopping expeditions with your pet could also be a good idea because pets usually love exploring stores. If you want something unique, plan an outing with them on a sledge in the snow to give them the real life ‘Rudolf the reindeer’ feel. Alternatively a group outing with your friends who also happen to be pet parents could be a good idea. Take care to introduce your pets to the other pets well before hand so that they are not new to each other. Their getting along well would only determine the success of such an outdoor picnic.
Lights, camera and action- Memories are the only things that last a lifetime. Unfortunately, your pet will not be around for many years and having a photo session each Christmas could be a great idea to have a compilation of those happy memories with your fur pal. Make the best of these photo shoots by adding novel twists to it each year. It could be twinning in red with your furry friend or having them dressed in cute clothing and accessories. Wouldn’t it be a great picture if you dressed up in Waggfluence Christmas cuddle unisex hoodie and your fur friend in Waggfluence Christmas dress up cloak costume. Make your pet your Santa by making him wear Waggfluence Christmas small plush Santa hat. Cherish these moments together and make happy memoirs of Christmas days year after year.

]]>Myths about them
They are happy alone- Rabbits are as much social animals as dogs or cats. They love to play and have fun with their human parent. In general, they love affection and being pampered. Running around in the open, monitored by you comes as a great happiness to them. They also like to stay in groups or at least pairs. In case you are planning to have them as pets, consider having at least two if you can. Being alone is not something rabbits look forward to.
No grooming sessions required- Just like in dogs and cats, we need to groom our pet rabbits too. To keep their fur clean and to give it a massage, you may consider using Waggfluence cat grooming pet hair deshedding brush massage glove. For complete care kit we present Waggfluence cat and dogs grooming brush grooming to softly brush the hair and the coat of rabbits and help them to relax. Leaving your pet rabbit dirty and unkempt is not only unhygienic but leads to a host of skin and hair diseases.
They like to be cuddled- Unlike dogs and cats, they do not like to be cuddled. This is because they are originally prey animals which were hunted down by carnivores in the wild. Their instinctual habit is to break away from embrace as they might see it as a threat to their being. Having said this, it is important to note that some rabbits may like human touch. You could gently pat them or kiss them without being overly excited. To engage them, you could try Waggfluence hideaway tunnel toy for small pets to make them happy.
They are low maintenance pets- Like all pets they need their share of love and care from their human parents. You would have to refill their food and water bowls at least thrice a day. Rabbit always seem to be hungry and they will rankle around you until you feed them. That is why you have to be actively involved as a rabbit parent and you cannot leave them alone for long durations. Consider having a pet rabbit only when you think someone will be around during the day to feed and fill their water bowls. To protect them during winters you might need warm clothes and mats to keep them safe. Waggfluence warm fleece mats for small pets and Waggfluence warm winter hoodie sweater for cats can be useful buys.
They don’t like to play- It is true that rabbits are not as energetic as puppies. Still, it remains a fact that they too require muscle training like dogs, though not all that vigorous. They love to run with their human parent and will follow your hands to play around inanimate objects. Waggfluence has some great rabbit toys to help you choose from. Try Waggfluence rabbit chew toys to satiate their natural urge to chew. Waggfluence wooden chew toys for small pets, good for teeth and digestion for rabbits, is another great option to bring home for your Bunny. As rabbit care giver, you will have to rabbit proof your house to prevent any mishap.
They should be caged always- If you are busy and leave your Bunny caged for long hours, they begin to exasperate and feel nauseous. It is also brutal to keep them enclosed in a small space for long durations. Rabbits need to roam about and play in the open. In case you need to keep them caged, go for bigger playpens so as to not make them feel claustrophobic. Waggfluence DIY pet playpen fence is a good one to go for.
They have a short lifespan- Some people bring home a pet rabbit because they feel that a maximum of four years would be all they need to care for them as they have a short lifespan. This is a great myth as rabbits live on an average up to seven to eight years and could touch even twelve if you are caring enough.
If you are one who had been carrying myths about rabbits, it is time you set your knowledge metre straight. Knowing about them before adopting makes you a much better rabbit parent and you go on to develop a deep bond with the fur ball. It would be soon that you realise that rabbits are amazing pets to have. They will delight and warm your heart and it would be sheer pleasure to see that they reciprocate the same love that you shower on them. If you decide to bring a rabbit home, we at Waggfluence are here to help you in this journey of rabbit parenting. The toys, blankets, cute little warm clothing and accessories are here to help your Bunny grow happily and healthy. Much love to your Bunny from all of us here at Waggfluence!
]]>Vomiting- Due to a multitude of causes, vomiting is very common in cats. Cats like to nibble on things around, whether they are some plants or maybe strings lying around. Eating something poisonous or inedible may upset their digestive system and cause vomiting. Hairballs is another common vomiting cause in cats. When they ingest a lot of hair, it causes discomfort and they spit out hairballs as vomit. Other than these the cause of vomiting could range from infections to diabetes or urinary tract disease. The symptoms include drooling and abdominal heaving. Vomiting leaves your cat dehydrated, so if it continues or if your cat feels ill, call your vet for medical assistance.
Feline lower urinary tract diseases; FLUTD - This is another common disease in both male and female cats. FLUTD often occurs in cats that are overweight or unfit. Cats who eat dry food consume less water in turn are also affected by this disease. The reasons might range from stress or sudden changes or multi cat household. The symptoms are many and varied. It could be drinking more, straining to urinate, urinating more frequently, bloody urine, urinating in unusual places, crying when urinating, licking around the urinary area to ease the pain, depression, loss of appetite, dehydration or vomiting. The treatment depends on the kind and severity of the disease. Since it is an emergency if your cat cannot urinate, call your vet immediately for medical support.
Fleas- Fleas infestation is a common external feline health problem. If you happen to notice that your cat constantly scratches its skin or licks it frequently, it could be a sign of fleas swarm. Fleas often appear as dirt or tiny black dots on skin and results in hair loss, skin infections or red and irritated skin. If the flea infection continues, the cat risks anaemia as the fleas feed on blood of the host. Fleas can be controlled easily by oral medication, powders, foam and topical medication and can be avoided altogether by medicines and body oil.
Tapeworm- When flea infection continues, cats might swallow them accidently and get tapeworms in their stomach. Tapeworms can be as long as 2 feet but they are segmented and usually break apart when expelled. If you see small white worms that look like grains of rice or sesame seeds, your cat most likely has tapeworms. Look at its faeces, around the anus or in the bedding to tell if your cat has worms. Usually tapeworms come out of your cat’s anus while it is sleeping or relaxed. Symptoms of tapeworm infection can be subtle but may include vomiting and weight loss. Treatment includes injection, oral or topical medication. Also be sure of handling any flea problems your cat has as cats almost always get tapeworms as a result of ingesting fleas.
Diarrhoea- Loose, watery or liquid stool are symptoms of Diarrhoea which might stay for a day, a week or last for months. This could be due to intestinal parasites, spoiled food, allergies, infection, liver diseases, cancer and more. Since loose stools lead to dehydration in patients, you should remember to give your kitty plenty of fresh and clean water to make up for the loss of water in the body. Take your cat to a vet if it does not stop even after a day or if it is accompanied by vomiting, fever, lethargy, dark or bloody stools or loss of appetite. If your cat is straining to defecate, then also it could be serious and requires immediate medical intervention.
Eye problems- As in humans and dogs, cats also tend to suffer from various eye ailments. These include conjunctivitis, corneal ulcer, cataracts, glaucoma, trauma, viruses, inflammation and retinal disease. If you notice your cat having watery eyes, tear stained fur, cloudiness, red or white eyelid linings, gunk in the corners of the eyes, squinting, pawing at the eye or a visible third eyelid, then it means your cat has eye infection. Depending on the severity of the symptom treat it as a medical emergency and consult your vet immediately.
Even though these are common cat health problems they should never be ignored and dealt with instantly. Keeping your cat clean and hygienic and ensuring that you keep your home cat proof helps a lot in ensuring their good health and their not falling prey to poisonous or inedible stuff. Waggfluence feels that prevention is better than cure and so consult your pet to keep them off flea infections. For pet grooming supplies try the quality products at Waggfluence because we aim at a happy you and a happy meow!
]]>Placement of Christmas tree- If you are planning on having a big Christmas tree, take care to place it in the corner of the room. If possible, tie it to a sturdy post to avoid its crashing down if an excited pet leaps on it. For additional security you could anchor the tree to your ceiling with a ceiling hook and fishing line. You could also consider setting up the tree in a room that you can keep closed when you are not around. Many pet parents also create a barrier using a plastic pen or baby gate so that the pets can’t access the tree.
Christmas tree water- For people who bring live pines, spruces and firs inside for Christmas need to use a water reservoir inside of the tree stand to keep the plant alive. Pet parents should ensure that this water reservoir is not accessible to the pets. The trees may sometimes release toxic sap into the stand as it drinks water from the reservoir. This might smell tasty to the pets and they may be lured to drink the water which might be deadly because of the sap. Many fresh trees are also preserved with pesticides and fertilizer water additives which can be harmful to the pets. It is best to block access to the stand by covering it with an aluminum foil and a well wrapped tree skirt.
Christmas lights, decorations and gifts- Choose artificial lights instead of candles to adorn your house. Opt for string lights without any open wiring to avoid any mishap. If you have a real pine tree, clean up all pine needles that fall off to avoid any injury to the pets. Décor items like ribbons or tinsels can be accidently ingested by the pets if not kept out of their reach which can lead to intestinal blockage to them. Tree ornaments may look like potential toys to the pets and chewing on them could cause cuts in the mouth, throat and digestive system. Christmas bouquets and floral arrangements that contain lilies are very hazardous to pets, especially cats as they can cause fatal kidney failure in them.
Christmas treats and chocolates- Receiving gifts from visitors is a part of Christmas festivities and chocolates and candies are a popular one. Keep all the chocolate boxes out of reach of your pets as any ingestion of these may cause chocolate poisoning, especially in dogs. The Xylitol and Theobromine present in these sweets can adversely affect their heart and may lead to serious implications. Feeding the begging pets some table scraps can also be dangerous if they contain any bone pieces causing a choking hazard. Cakes and pastries with nuts and raisins should be safely kept away from the reach of the pets as they might cause digestive allergies.
Pre party planning- Whether you are the host or guest in a Christmas party, it is going to be a long evening for all. Before the festivities begin, spend some time with your fur pal by playing with them and taking them out on a walk. This will help them with their much needed daily share of exercise and also tire them out so that they will not bother you much later. If your pets feel anxious around so many people and all the jubilant noises, calm them with soothing words. Have a room ready before hand for such situations where you can leave them with their favorite toys, a bowl of fresh water and some treats. Keep their cozy beds in there so that the pets get to relax until the party gets over. If the dogs bark excessively or your cats meow continuously, try to understand that it is a part of their venting out fear and anxiety. Do not scold them or shout at them as it will make matters worse. Clean up after the party so that the pets don’t lay their paws on any dangerous things. Keep the garbage bag knotted properly to keep excited pets off searching for leftovers in them.
Christmas is a celebration time for all, including your pets. Include them in this joy by getting them some pet toys as Christmas gift or buy them a cozy bed. Make them some pet treats or buy them so that they too feel something special on this day. Let your pets bask in the glory of the day. Merry Christmas to all!
]]>Reasons why cats meow non-stop
It could be seeking your attention- Even though cats can be on their own until they need food or water, they might crave for your attention if they feel ignored. Cat owners usually say that when they are busy with their work or occupied with friends and family, cats seek their love and time. When your cat is seeking your attention, they can be very loud and persistent. Take out some time to play with them and give them some love. Just putting it beside you and petting it could also be enough to satiate their attention demand. Respect the feelings of your kitty and make sure not to let it feel ignored or neglected. Prolonged periods of feeling unloved could trigger behavioural issues in them too.
They are excited to see you- Your kitty might become happy to see you if you are just home or they see you after a gap of time. Meowing a few times could be their way of greeting you and saying they missed you in your absence. Cats like to make their feelings and expression known and they become vocal to exhibit it to you.
They might be afraid or feel threatened- Cats could feel afraid of a situation or another animal or human being. If there is a thunderstorm or some loud fire crackers, they might find this noise very disturbing. This could make them cry for help or make them cover and hide in a place they deem safe. Cats could also meow uncontrollably if they feel threatened of an animal, either in the house or outside. Their fear is due to a perceived threat and their genuine fear leads to their excessive meowing. Bringing another pet home could make them feel intimidated by the new arrival and the cat may feel territorial about their space.
Mating season- If the cat has not been neutered, they become rather aggressive during the mating ritual. When cats are in heat, they become loud and the meowing is persistent. Cats are primarily active at night, and this loud communication can become very inconvenient for people around. The only solution to calm them and make them a more obedient pet is to neuter your cat when it is time. Ask your vet for the right age to neuter your kitty to avoid these unwanted situations.
They might be hungry- Some cats are always looking out for food, especially treats. Every time you enter the kitchen or your pantry, your cat in anticipation of some food may cry continuously. Cats in general can become very persistent when it comes to begging for food. The advice to all cat parents is to not feed them outside meal hours and not pay heed to their repeated meowing asking for treats. An overfed cat may soon become obese and certain cat diseases associated with it will soon follow suit. If you ignore the repeated meowing of your cat for food, they might learn not to repeat it as they begin to understand that it was a futile effort. Giving in to their demands will encourage them to meow excessively every time they want food.
They are sick- Certain ailments, both physical and emotional could make cats meow excessively. Some diseases like thyroid problems could leave your cat always feeling hungry or thirsty. Stress or pain could also make your cat meow constantly. If you feel that their meowing is a cry of pain, it is best to attend to them immediately and consult a vet for medical opinion.
They are getting older- As in other living beings, old age can make cats experience mental dysfunction or confusion. This could make them feel unsafe and uneasy, which could lead to the cats crying persistently, especially at night. Due to growing age they may have poor eyesight and thus become unable to find their way through the house. This disorientation may cause them to meow excessively, especially after dark. Older cats tend to suffer from arthritis and the pain in bones could be a reason for continuous meowing.
Listen to your cat
Attend to your cat when it is meowing excessively. If you think it is to get your attention, pet and play with them. A cry in pain should make you look for reasons and consult a vet immediately. Set a routine and feed them only during meal times. Keep their litter boxes clean every time as cats are very fussy about dirty ones. For older cats, get a heated bed to soothe their pain and install a night light to see better.
Deciphering your cat’s meowing will come naturally to all cat parents eventually. In case of any queries, consult your vet for professional advice. For all things happy and safe, trust Waggfluence for their pet supplies and support. Happy cat parenting!
]]>What is a sensitive stomach
If your dog has a sensitive stomach, the occurrence of flatulence or diarrhoea will be very frequent in them. Just like in humans, a modest digestive disturbance does not matter much, but a repeated occurrence is not a good sign. Some dogs lose interest in food because they remember the discomfort they face post meals. They start eating less which again poses threat to their health. Some dogs have sensitive stomach from birth while others develop it later due to faulty lifestyle.
Causes of sensitive stomach
If you have noticed that your puppy has had trouble digesting food since the beginning, has gas and irregular faeces, then it could be a hereditary thing. Others might develop this over the years due to their food and exercise habits. It is possible that table scraps, leftovers or any treats that you are giving them does not suit their gastrointestinal system. Check to see whether your dog is slipping into the trash, garbage bin or waste thrown on roads which is making them sick. Identifying the problem makes it much easier to treat effectively. Notice any food or dairy allergies which trigger the symptoms of sensitive stomach and avoid those foods to see if it gets better. If you take him out for exercise just before or after meals, this could also interrupt with the smooth functioning of the digestive system. You are the parent and your alertness and precaution matters most.
Signs and symptoms
The most common symptoms are intermittent loose stools or diarrhoea. Similar to humans, dogs too pass gas or have loose stools; but it becomes a matter of concern if the symptoms are long lasting and it is accompanied by weight loss. Other common signs of sensitive stomach include giving up on eating food, licking their lips, swallowing a lot and vomiting. Your dog’s stool may include blood too in some extreme cases. A dog whose stomach is inflamed may become lethargic and less lively and refuse to participate in any activity or even going out for a walk. Excessive stomach growling and fever may also happen due to a sensitive stomach. Extended exposure to these symptoms may irritate their gastrointestinal tract and result in ulceration if not treated in time.
Treatment and precautions
Your vet may prescribe lab test findings to determine the treatment approach. The blood tests will reveal the severity of the disease and whether the inability to digest food is affecting the functions of any other internal organ. The first step is to change your dog’s diet to something more conducive to the digestive system. Your vet may provide a prescription diet with high quality components available. You may also be advised to rule out any ingredient your dog may be allergic to. Many dogs have trouble digesting fat. A diet rich in fibre such as one with beet pulp may suit your dog fine.
In case where tests show an ulcer in the GI system, your vet will give drugs to ease the ulcer and provide a protective coating to it. The medication will ensure that your dog’s gut health is back to normal and that it recuperates faster and better. Anti vomiting medicines, probiotics, and other medications deemed fit for the set of symptoms exhibited will be administered by your vet.
Your vet may also consider adding supplements to your dog’s diet to address any additional nutritional requirement. Your dog’s diet will be prescribed to keep his digestive system in good shape. CBD can also help treating digestive issues and is effective to decrease pain and inflammation in the intestine. It is also known to keep your dog calm and decrease their anxiety that may be causing them to have stress diarrhoea.
As a precautionary measure, there are various food items to be particularly avoided to ensure that the digestive system of your dog works well. Chocolates, salty food , fried and fatty meat, milk and dairy should be avoided at all costs as they contain ingredients which can make the dogs sick. Some dogs may have the inability to digest certain forms of protein and you can switch to a different protein diet to see if the problem goes away.

]]>Verbal and physical praise - Who doesn’t like being praised by people around you? Praise does wonders to boost one’s self-esteem and works to build confidence that is great for a healthy mental growth. Like humans, animals too love being praised and acknowledged for their efforts. When your dog does something nice, follows your commands or learns a new trick, be quick and generous to praise them. This keeps them motivated to do things right and gives them a purpose to follow. Praises should come both in as many words as well as in hugs and cuddles. Nothing can make your canine happier than when you appreciate them. Your support and love goes a long way in making them feel safe, comfortable and happy.
Toys, toys and more toys- Your four legged baby can never have enough toys. They love variety, novelty, and excitement when it comes to toys. Interactive toys stimulate their mind and help to train them more effectively. You need not buy a lot of toys for them. Just remember to give them a rotation so as to not let your pooch feel bored by any of them. Waggfluence has a variety of dog toys that have great reviews from the pet parents who bought them for their fur babies. These keep them active and agile and work both for giving them their much needed share of physical and mental exercise. This Christmas make your Fido happy by getting them a fun toy from a trusted platform.
A walk in the neighbourhood- It is no secret that dogs love to venture out and explore the neighbourhood. A walk should be on their daily routine with you or your family member to make your dog feel loved. Not only it gives them their share of exercise to keep their weight in check, but it also works wonders to develop a bond between the two of you. Waggfluence has great dog leashes that are comfortable on their collar and are also hands free to keep you happy. Leash your dog up and ensure their safety as you set out on a walk with your fur pal. It would be a good idea to keep changing trails and paths every few days to give your dog a novelty in exploring the areas during their walk time.
Tricks and treats- A fixed pattern of meals can become boring for your fur friend after some time. Excite them with a treat that is both healthy and tasty, as a reward or as a break from their regular food. Dogs love dog treats whether they are their favourite cookies or peanut butter cakes and sweets. Other than treats, teach them new tricks to keep them active and entertained. Dogs love to learn tricks especially when you make an effort to teach them with love and encouragement. Tricks and treats are not just for Halloween, you know that now, right?
Stick to a routine- Following a pattern of the diurnal activities is important to teach your fur friend some discipline and routine in life. Stick to a particular meal and play schedule as much as you can. In a few days you will notice your dog pick up their timings and moving to their feeding bowl during meal time or waiting enthusiastically by the door when it is their walk or play time. This routine teaches them to be patient and not to bother you unnecessarily during your own work schedules. Making a few positive changes for your dog day-to-day is one thing. But ensure not to overhaul their entire routine as it can make them cranky and anxious. Dogs are creatures of habit and need the security and reliability of a structured life. Allocate certain hours to specific tasks and we are sure your dog would slip easily into a routine and love you for it.
The mental health of pets is just as important as their physical well- being. Ignoring that could result in dogs being depressed and exhibiting anxiety symptoms which of course no pet parent would like. That is why it is important to take the happiness quotient of pets quite seriously. Waggfluence wants all pets to be happy and all pet parents to be happier. Dedicating some time to follow these simple rules in life will go a long way in making life easier and better. After all, dogs are our link to paradise!

The not so good past experiences- Dogs have a good memory and they relate to every activity as done in the past. If they have had a bad experience in the past related to their bathing time, they may resist this always. It could be getting scalded by hot water or getting stinging shampoo in the eyes. Sometimes due to negligence while bathing, your dog might have slipped and fallen in the tub which might have scarred his experience of bathing. Generally pet parents go for their grooming activities like clipping their nails or cleaning their ears as a bath time activity. If the nails get clipped too short, the dogs associate this pain with bathing and as a result hate bathing. If due to their not sitting still during bathing, the water might get up their nose and gives them the feeling of discomfort which they remember and hence detest bathing there after.
Forcibly bathing by the dog parents- Bathing can involve dogs being handled and having their bodies moved around in ways they might not like. More often than not, baths are forced on them because pet parents want them clean and hygienic. So they are bathed not by their choice, which they obviously do not like. This loss of choice and control over what happens to them can be very upsetting and distressing to the dogs.
The bath givers make it stressful- In this busy and hectic time schedule of pet parents, they might want to hurry over the process of giving their dogs a bath. If the dogs are not being cooperative during bathing process, the bath givers may shout at the dog or handle them roughly in order to complete their job of bath giving as soon as possible. Hurrying through the process and venting out frustration on the canines can make them fear bath in the future too. Dogs take emotional cues from their pet parents and if they sense stress and strain, they follow suit.
Unfamiliarity of bathing- Some pet parents choose to give their dogs a bath after long intervals of time. The newness of the process may freak out the dogs because they are unfamiliar with this grooming process. Being plunged into a tub of water and soaped up with shampoo and scrubbed all over might be an emotionally daunting task for them. This in turn may create negative associations with bathing which they might connect with in their future bath processes as well.
How to bathe a dog that hates bath
The question remains on how to make the dogs enjoy bathing and look forward to their coats and fur being soaped and cleaned properly. This involves making them replace their past negative experiences with happy and joyous ones. Depending on the level of your dog’s dislike for bathing, this could take a few to more than that bathing sessions to make them outgrow the dislike for it. Here are a few ways you can try to make bathing a normal exercise for them.
Make bath time fun- Try not to force your dog into the tub or bathing regimen. Stay calm yourself and do not rush into the process. Instead try to play with your dog in the tub by splashing water and making it a fun activity. Bathe your dog when you are relaxed and not hard pressed for time, otherwise your stress may be evident to your fur pal and make him agitated.
Safety and precautions during bathing- Ensure that your dog feels safe during bathing time. Pour water on them so as to not let it go over their nose or eyes. Place a non- skid mat at the bottom of the tub to prevent them from slipping. Use shampoo massagers to relax and massage their coat while cleaning them too. Be gentle to your dog and very careful while trimming their nails or brushing their teeth as part of their bathing process. Be sure to test the temperature of the water so that it is neither too hot nor too cold.
Treats and toys- Place some toys in the tub or bathroom to make your dog interested in going in. Let them play with the toys awhile before running the tap on. Give them treats before and after bath and praise or soothe them with your words and pat while giving them a bath. This will encourage them to take bath and not fear them thereafter.
Keeping these simple tips in mind can help alter the mind-set of your canine about bathing. Your love and care says it all, so let it flow in abundance while bathing your dog. If they still happen to fear it, try a professional groomer and let your dog wither their fears of bathing. For pet toys and pet grooming supplies, try Waggfluence for an amazing experience.

Types of limps
There are two types of limps in dogs; gradual onset and sudden onset. While gradual onset could be because of an underlying medical condition like those related to bones and muscles, sudden limps are mostly due to an injury or trauma. In general, gradual onset limps in dogs are caused by an underlying chronic or degenerative condition, such as osteoarthritis or dysplasia. Arthritis is more common in aging dogs or in overweight ones that have never had their share of required amount of exercise. In some case arthritis is seen in dogs living in extremely cold conditions as lack of proper exposure to sunlight leads to deficiency in certain important vitamins and triggers arthritis in them. Some other causes of gradual limp include bone cancer or hip dysplasia. Whatever the underlying medical reason is, the treatment becomes easy and effective if they are caught sooner rather than later.
Common reasons of limping in dogs
Paw injury- When you take your dog out on a walk without his shoes on, there are chances that he could step on something sharp like shredded glass or sticks and thorns or sharp edged pebbles and cut his paws. This injury makes it uncomfortable for them to walk and if left untreated, the injury could worsen into a more severe infection. Insect or animal stings and bites, broken toenails, carelessness while trimming nails, frostbite or bruising are other common causes of their paws being injured and their consequent limping. If you notice your dog licking his paw incessantly, there are strong chances of his paw being injured. Waggfluence cares for your dog and hence has come up with Waggfluence pet walking shoes to keep your dog’s paws safe while walking. Waggfluence electric dog nail clippers ensure that you do not accidently cut his nails beyond the quick of the nails and hurt them.
Joint disease- The gradual wear and tear on joints and the musculoskeletal system in dogs may lead to subsequent limping in dogs. Their limbs may get mildly or severely affected by a lot of diseases like osteoarthritis, hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, patellar luxation, ligament disease, intervertebral disk disease, and osteochondritis dissecans i.e. OCD among others. Sometimes pet parents miss having their dogs on an effective tick preventative. In such cases, the dogs might catch infections like Lyme disease which can also cause joint pain and limping. If your vet confirms arthritis or dysplasia, they may put your dog on a veterinarian grade joint supplement of glucosamine and chondroitin. Joint supplements are clinically proven to reduce symptoms of osteoarthritis and hip dysplasia. These are great to be used as an early intervention and throughout the progression of arthritis as these drugs are considered safe for long term usage.
Injury or trauma- Dogs are prone to almost as many injuries as we are. From car accidents to sports injuries, ligament tears, fractures, sprains, dislocations, joint trauma and spinal injuries can all cause moderate to severe limping in dogs. In some cases when the dog is not able to put weight on the affected leg, proper rest should be given until an appointment with the vet.
Treating a limping dog
Deciphering the reason of limping makes it easy to treat the limp. When the cause of limping is clear like a broken bone or a piece of glass in a paw pad, the treatment by the vet is done accordingly. When the cause is more elusive and need tests, your vet may recommend radiographs, biopsies and joint fluid collection and/or blood tests to identify broken bone, joint disease, skeletal abnormalities, cancer or infectious diseases like Lyme. Depending upon the cause of the dog’s lameness, the treatment plan could be simple as a few days of rest, or it could entail surgery, medication and a prolonged recovery. The key is to visit the vet as soon as possible for better prognosis. Till then, keep your dog calm and abstain from exercise or play.

]]>Breed sizes
In general dogs that are one year or older are often considered adults, although this isn’t always the case. Many toy and small breed dogs weigh less than 20 pounds at maturity and reach this size between 9 and 10 months of age. On the other hand medium sized dogs weighing 21 to 50 pounds reach their maturity around one year of age. Large and giant breeds are those that weigh between 50 and 100 pounds and take around two years to attain this weight and hence maturity. Thus they need puppy food longer than small and medium sized puppy. If you have a mixed breed dog and you are confused as to its maturity age and size, consult your vet for proper guidance. In addition to food type, it is equally important to monition food potions too. The amount and number of meals given to an adult dog is different from that of a puppy.
Why it is important to switch to adult food
The growing years of any being requires high calorie food and protein to help them grow. Puppy food is rich in nutrients and high in calories to facilitate their healthy growth and development. The high calorie food is also essential to match their high energy levels as puppies are always active and happily bounding from one place to another. In contrast, an adult dog needs a balanced diet to maintain his ideal body condition. Continuing puppy food for them may lead to health implications as they may not be able to burn off those high calorie foods and result in unwanted weight gain. When your puppy is nearing his adulthood, this is around the time when spaying or neutering is done, lowering your dog’s need for increased energy. Hence it is all the more crucial to switch food at the right time to avoid any nutrition based issue in canines.
How to make the transition
When you are sure that this is the right time to make the switch, it is important that you go slow and steady. Introducing a change in diet immediately could cause gastrointestinal issues in them. Chances are your dog would reject the new meal if the transition is sudden because he is not used to the taste and texture of the new meal. To make a gradual switch, start by feeding three fourth of the normal amount of puppy food and add one fourth portion of adult food for the first couple of days. Make it half of each puppy and adult food for the subsequent couple of days. Increase the adult food portion to three quarter and add one quarter puppy food to it for the following two, three days. After a week or eight days from starting to introduce adult food, you can switch completely to it.
While making the transition to the quality of food, it is also advisable to cut down on the three times a day puppy meals to twice a day adult dog food. The protein dense, high calorie puppy food is no more required as full grown dogs do not have as much high metabolism and energy needs. Keep a tab on the appetite of your dog as every dog is different. If you see him picking at food or skipping meals, you may reduce the potion to suit its needs.

There are various ways a dog might behave if it wants to avoid the company of another canine. Some may become aggressive and take to barking or lunging while others may become submissive and withdraw themselves. In general you should look out for these signs.
# Your dog barks, lunges or snaps at other dogs. When your dog is on leash, they cannot run away from an approaching dog. This is when they show their aggressiveness as when ‘flight’ is not an option ‘fight’ is.
# Your dog yawns in an exaggerated way or licks their lips nervously when other dogs approach them. This stems from the fact that they are less confident around them.
# Your dog attempts to move away from other approaching dogs or tries to hide in their presence, either behind you or any object.
# Your dog tends to shiver or whine around other dogs and even refuses to take treats when they are around. They stay nervously still and even refuse to play as they are not comfortable around other dogs.
Reasons of this fear
Lack of socialization- When you have kept your dog in solitude for a long time and not helped him socialize with other dogs since they were puppies, they develop an unfamiliarity with them. Socialization begins with their litter and their mother. Once they are weaned from their mother, they should still have interactions with their littermates. Pulled too early from their littermates or being litters of only one or two puppies will show lack of socialization. Their first learning of interaction is with their littermates and if this is hindered, they might exhibit fears of other dogs later too.
Past trauma- It has been noticed that many times due to a past stigma, the dogs behave irrationally in front of other canines. It might be possible that they were attacked by other dogs in the past or chased and gnarled at by them which instilled a deep rooted feeling of fear in them. Your dog will be wary of any other dog from then after and not trust them as friends or companions.
Behavior of submissiveness- Some dogs are very docile by nature. This could stem from their early puppy days as they might be the less dominant one in the litter. Because of their pecking order in their litter, they might have a softer and more submissive nature. These dogs are more likely to show fear or uncertainty around other dogs.
How to help your dog overcome this fear
Depending on how deep seated the fear is from other canines, your dog will react at a different pace from others. You need to keep your patience and never shout at him for this behavior of his. Your understanding and love is going to go a long way in helping your dog overcome this fear of other dogs.
Identify your dog’s threshold- There is no need to rush things. Begin by identifying the distance from another canine that your dog begins to exhibit outward signs of fear. That distance could vary between 5 feet to 100 feet. At the beginning of the training, try never to cross that distance in order to build confidence at a gradual pace.
Try to show that other dogs are a good effect- To change your dog’s negative emotions about other dogs to positive response, try to change your dog’s opinion about other ones. You could give him a reward or treat every time another dog appears at a safe distance. Continuous process of reward may get him to believe that something wonderful will happen when another dog is in proximity.
Practice works a lot- If you think a particular idea is working, keep practicing it until you get the desired level. Once your dog is able to calmly watch another dog pass by within their threshold distance, decrease the buffer zone. Keep doing this slowly but steadily.
If the fear is deep instilled, chances are your dog will continue to be selective about who they want to interact with. In case this does not include more dogs, it is okay. Even human beings are choosy about their friends. If your dog is happy around you and your family and is confident around others, you should not fret over his dislike for other dogs. Unless it exhibits causes of concern, you can ignore this and enjoy your time with your fur pal. Waggfluence wishes a happy bonding of your pet with others and of course you!
]]>You will need a soft measuring tape to measure your dog. If you don’t have one, use a ribbon or soft string and then set it against a ruler or rigid measuring tape to get the precise number. Try to do it when your dog is calm, otherwise keep some treats handy to reward them for sitting still. To begin with, you should know that there are three key areas to measure when fitting your dog for garments.
Some tips to bear in mind
While ordering for a size according to the measurements taken, if your dog is in between sizes, always size up.
If the clothing looks like it is falling off or is super baggy, it is not functional for your dog. It should not be too tight either and check this by fitting two fingers underneath the neckline of the garment.
The arm or leg holes should also not be too tight to facilitate easy and unhindered movement of your fur baby.
Now that you are ready to shop for your canine, Waggfluence advises you to go for clothing made of high quality material so as to be soothing and comfortable on their skin. Check out sweet and stylish warm jackets and sweaters for pets at Waggfluence which are designed to suit the needs of your dog just perfectly. Let the supply of cuddles and kisses from your little one be endless and let the cuteness of your dog be overloaded as it flaunts its dapper appearance in the clothing bought by you.
]]>Physical signs of aging
Cloudy eyes- Just like in humans, eye cloudiness is a common ailment in senior dogs. It could be due to cataract or other diseases that signal loss of vision. Since it happens gradually, you might not notice it right away. But if you see your dog having trouble locating a toy on the floor or they start bumping into things, you should get alert. Most often these are easily treatable and do not affect vision, but it sure is a sign of your dog getting old.
Stinky breath- Dogs of all age groups might have horrible breath if they refuse to brush their teeth or do not let their owners take oral care of them. But as their age progresses, it is common that they have tooth decay, gum disease or other mouth infections that make their breath all the more stinky. While it was easier for them to fight infections in younger days, as their age advances the immune system gradually weakens. That is why they suddenly start showing symptoms of bad oral health.
Less active and agile- It is fairly common in older dogs to start showing signs of arthritis or other bones and muscular problems. Owing to this they tend to slow down and refrain from playing and jumping as before. When the ailment turns serious, they might even refuse to get up from their place and keep licking their limbs to soothe them. If you notice that your once active dog is now slowing down and losing interest in all activities, take him to a vet. Some supplements or a dietary change could make them slightly better equipped to deal with the pain. Take slower and shorter walks and switch to a less gruelling exercise routine as suggested by your vet.
Changes in weight- Dogs that have been less active in their young days tend to gain weight as their age advances. This requires you to change their diet plans according to their exercise routine to maintain a healthy weight as obesity is another serious issue to battle. However, it is also common in senior dogs to lose weight as a result of reduced muscle mass. Sometimes senior dogs have reduced appetite or suffer from digestive illness or simply have poor absorption of nutrients. You should pay attention if your dog loses more than 10 percent of their body weight in a few months or over a year. Consult your vet for any distinct changes in the weight of your senior dog.
Mental signs of aging
Grumpy and prefers solitude- It is a real pain for pet parents to see their once bounding bundle of joy turn grumpy. This could be due to an underlying physical problem associated with their aging process. They might be in constant pain due to arthritis, oral health or any other physical discomfort. The senior dogs sometimes want to be left on their own and do not prefer your company as before. This could be because they fear you might want to play with them or try to pat them where it hurts. Older dogs need more rest and sleep and hence prefer to be left in their napping place.
Canine cognitive dysfunction syndrome- Similar to Alzheimer’s in humans; CCDS can bring about pronounced changes in your dog’s everyday behaviour. It is a dementia that affects 14 to 35 percent of dogs over eight years old. The common symptoms include confusion and disorientation, increased anxiety, house soiling, increased barking, forgetting commands and cues that they once knew and other marked changes in their activity level. While there is no cure for CCDS, some medications can help cope up with the symptoms to a great degree. Talk it out with your vet to know better.
How to help your aging dog
It is no less distress for you to see your dog age and showing various signs of physical and mental discomfort. While there is little you can do to slow down the aging process, you can sure help them age gracefully. The first and foremost thing you can do is remain in constant touch with your vet to diagnose and treat signs of aging at the earliest. Seek their advice to bring about when and how much changes you need to make about their diet and exercise schedule. Your canine friend has given you so many years of unconditional love and loyalty. Isn’t it our duty and responsibility to help them bide their golden years of life with as much pride and self esteem as always?
